Character Conflict Story

It was about 10:30 and I couldn’t fall asleep. I could hear the wind knocking on my window as I watched my favourite tree, with my tree house in it, sway side to side. I’ve had that tree house since I was six when I helped build it with my dad and grandpa before my grandpa passed away in the summer of 2006. I was scared because if the tree did fall it would probably damage the house and I would be devastated. I was startled by the opening of my door. It was my brother Logan checking if I was awake. When he realised I was and he ran in. “Scarlett! I’m scared!” he said to me as he jumped on the bed, “me too.” I gave him a reassuring look thinking that everything would be alright when all of a sudden there was a huge gush of wind followed by a loud crack. Logan and I looked out the window and saw that our tree house was visibly cracked and our tree house would be on the ground soon enough. My mom and dad ran to our room to see what happened. My mom said that a hurricane was starting and my heart dropped.  I have never experienced something like this before and it was frightening. Suddenly a million thoughts and concerns ran through my head about what was going to happen to my house and the community and even my friends and family and their houses. As my mom was comforting Logan because he was crying he was so scared, I heard a big crash. On the ground shattered into pieces was my tree house. I didn’t think that I would get as upset as I was. I felt so bad because it was a memory of my grandpa and Logan and I spent so much time up there. I wanted to run out to get the pieces but my parents said that I had to get to sleep and that we will deal with it when it’s safe to go outside. That night my brother and I couldn’t get any sleep and we kept waking up because of all the noise outside.

Just as she circled the last answer on her grade 10 social studies test, the bell rang and Scarlett was forced  to hand in her test to hand in her test to Mr. Macintyre without it being looked over. Scarlett had always had trouble with social studies and she tried her hardest to do well on tests and assignment but this test was especially hard. She opened her locker and threw her books in, as she glanced in the mirror she saw that her light brown hair had been messed up from running her fingers through it all day. At this point she didn’t care. She was already late to pick up her brother from elementary school. She drug her feet through the whole school still mad at herself because of the test. As she got outside she was hit by the warm California heat. She got into her silver car and drove off. As she waited for her brother Logan to come out of the school, she saw her white iPhone light up from a text message. It was from her best friend Louise. The message read “hey! How did you do on the test?” Louise had helped Scarlett study all weekend because Louise is in the same class but period 2 instead of 5. “Well I’m not sure!” she didn’t want to tell Louise that she thought she did badly because Louise had probably done really well. As Scarlett pressed send, Logan hopped in the car. They said their usual ‘hi’ and ‘how are you’ but other than that it was a pretty awkward car ride home. Scarlett and Logan had always had a very good relationship but today she didn’t feel like talking. Scarlett pulled up in the drive way of their parent’s medium sized home and they both ran in. Logan ran to his parents to show the paper he had in his hand and by the reaction of his parents it had to be something good. Scarlett looked over her dads shoulder to see that Logan had got a 100% on his social studies test. She was furious because in elementary they have it so easy and it’s not fair. It was reaching around 5:00 and she had dance at 5:15, her favourite thing to do. Dance was always something that she could do to take her mind off of everything and she loved that. After coming home and having a shower Scarlett threw her hair long hair into a bun and put on some sweats. After having a long conversation with Louise she felt a lot better. They compared answers and most of them matched up. Louise told Scarlett to stop second guessing herself which was something that Scarlett did a lot. She studied lot and did all she could do and that’s all that matters.

Creative Writing

After a long hard day at school I love to come home to my favourite place, my bedroom. My room is located at the back of the house in between my brothers and parents. My room is medium, square sized and has a colour pattern of ivory, a light pink, silver and oak. As soon as you walk into my room you are overwhelmed with smells. At the moment my room smells quite fresh and summer like. With the spring air, perfume, flowers and a hint of lemon oil that my mom uses to clean table tops, so I guess sometimes it has a weird taste as well. I have hard wood floors in my room and they always seem to be cold. I really don’t like them; I think that carpet in a bedroom is best because it’s more comfortable. My room has a very warm feel to it because of the colours. The first thing that you see is my bed. It is a double bed with an ivory comforter. I have 4 sleeping pillows and 3 decorative pillows which are pink, beige with brown accents and a sequence pillow. I also have a light pink blanket at the bottom of my bed,. Right beside that I have my bed side table. It’s made of oak and has two drawers.  On it is a white and silver lamp, a silver photo frame, a pink and silver lava lamp and a silver dancer figure. Above my bed side table I have a decorative mirror which is round and has a silver boarder. Next I have a cabinet, which is also made of oak and has shelves and two drawers at the bottom. In there I store clothes and other random things and on top of it I have my black TV. Next I have a black picture that has a whole bunch of words on it like laugh, love, sing, dance etc.  Then I have my closet which had two big mirrors on it which really comes in handy. It’s a fairly big closet but not a walk in. Then I have my chalk calendar which I love filling out at the beginning of every month so I can stay organized. Coming back to a full circle, on top if my bed I have my window with ivory curtains, which are pretty thick so my room can go fairly dark at night time. Last but defiantly not least in the very centre of my room I have my chandelier. At the top there are 5 lines of around 10 little crystals that hang down to meet a round base which is followed by some crystals hanging down with a big diamond in the middle.  My room is usually clean, but during the week when I am super busy, when I say I cleaned my room it usually just means that I made path from my door to my bed. Cleaning and organizing my room usually takes place on the weekend when I feel more up to it. I really do love my room and feel like it’s a place where I can just relax.

Puck

The character that I have chosen to play Puck is Jim Carrey. He is a Canadian American actor, comedian, and producer. He has played in movies like Yes Man, Bruce Almighty, Mr. Popper’s Penguins and many more. I think that he would fit the character of Puck the best because Puck is a very miscevious, funny guy and that’s exactly what Jim Carrey is. In the book puck is constantly playing jokes on people and is funny while he is doing it. Jim Carrey is always the funny guy in his movies and he has never played a serious role where he can’t be silly and goofy. In act 3 scene 1 Puck turns bottom into an ass. Bottom did not know about this and that’s what made puck laugh. This seems like something that Jim Carrey would do because Puck did it to humor himself and that’s what Jim Carrey likes to do.

 

 

 

 

Titania

The character that I have chosen to play Titania is Angelina Jolie. She is an American actress, film director, and screenwriter. She has played in movies such as Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Wanted, Gia, Salt and many more.  Angelina is often playing a very strong and powerful role. She is one of the top 10 powerful actresses. I think that she will be a good representation of Titania because, to me, Titania is a very strong and powerful character, but she can also be very sweet. Although Angelina is a strong actress she is also very sweet and she has a family with 6 kids and she seems very kid friendly just like Titania. Titania, in act 2 scene 1 when Oberon wants to take care of the boy from India she states “and for her sake do I rear up her boy, and for her sake I will not part with him.”  This is something that Angelina would say to protect her kids, because she wants the best from them and loves them very much. Lastly just like Titania is having problems with her husband, Angelina was having some problems with her husband Brad Pitt. The movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith was kind of a representation of the problems that they were having because both Angelina and Brad Pitt stared in the movie. I like the picture because Titania is a very earthly woman and I think that Angelina’s dress in the picture represents that.

 

 

 

 

Helena

The character that I have chosen to play Helena is Kate Winslet. She is an English actress and singer. She has played in movies such as Titanic, The Holiday, Carnage and many more. In 2009 Kate won best supporting actress at the Golden Globes for the movie The Reader. For me, in A Mid Summers Night Dream Helena is played as a supporting actress for the main characters who are Lysander and Hermia. I thought that Kate would be a perfect role for Helena because she won best supporting actress for a movie that she was in. In the movie Helena plays a very determined character. First, she is very determined to always love Demetrius and never let him go. Then when Lysander and Demetrius say that they love her, she is very determined that they are just playing a trick on her. Kate Winslet, in Titanic, plays a very determined character. She is very determined to stay with Jack (Leonardo Dicaprio) forever and to save him and to be with him for the rest of her life.

                                          Book cover for Midsummer Nights Dream
The book cover that I believe best represents a Midsummer Nights Dream the best would be the last book cover or number 4. I think that this book cover is the best one because so far in the book the setting has taken place mostly in the woods and I think that it really fits with the cover. Another example of why I think that this book cover is the best representation of a midsummers night dream book is that when you read the book, in almost every act there is someone sleeping or taking a nap and it would be something cool to actually think about once you have read the book. This book cover also has little fairies everywhere if you look closely and the fairies are another big part in the book and they should be included on the cover! I think what would make this book cover better would be having characters like a donkey for bottom or some representation of the play on the cover, since the play that they are putting on is a big part in the book and it would have been a good thing to put on the cover. This is one of those book covers that you won't really get until you've read it and I think that that's cool! I also really like all of the detail that is in the forest and it's defiantly the most detailed. We found out that the book is set in ancient Egypt because they were talking about gods and for me the person on the very front looks like how they showed their characters when showing stories in that time.

blog # 1- Part 2

     My book is called The Vampire Diaries, and its about a girl whos name is Elena. Elena is one of those girls in school who is so popular, but she is a very sweet girl. Her parents died when she was younger and now she lives with her aunt and little sister. She just broke up with her old boyfriend Matt to get to know the new guy Stefan, who is kinda of the more mysterious guy, who is secretly trying to resist his desire for Elena. Stefan is a vampire, and Elena just found out about this. Ever since she found out about Stefan, there has been so many murders and bad things happening and everyone has a sneaking suspition that its Stefan, even Elena's best friends Bonnie and Meredith.everyone in the town is so confused why this is all happening and wants to make it stop. Elena knows who it is, its Stefans cruel, dangerous brother Damon who is also a vampire. Stefan and his brother have never gotten along, especially now because Damon likes Elena and he will do everything to destroy Stefan.

     The main character in my book The Vampire Diaries is Elena. Elena is a very sweet person, as in shes one of those girls that you could run to for anything. She is also a very stubborn girl, so if you tell her to do somthing like stay there, she'll probably not, shes usually always helping people, even if they are in dangerous situations. She is also a very strong character, she is not scraed of Stefan because he is a vampire, but she helps him when he is in dangerous situations even if it means putting herself in a danger. In the book Elena has blonde hair whch is weird because in the tv show she has brown hair and also on the cover of the book she has brown hair. This is what i think Elena would  look like, if i didn't watch the tv show.


    At the moment my book is around October/November because they just had a halloween party. A major event that has happened so far is at the halloween party, one of the schools teachers was killed, the people of the town still have to figure out who did it and almost everyone is pointing fingers at Stefan. It was actually cool because when they first stared talking about halloween, it was halloween here and i thought that it was going to be Christmas when it was Christmas here, but they talked a lot more about halloween, so the book goes by fairly slowly.

blog # 1- Part 1

    Hi! Im Cara and im in Mr. Toms english class. I love to dance. Im in dance major here at Westwood and its the best class ever! So far im in 5 dances, 2 in dance major which are ballet and jazz and 3 outside of school which are jazz, tap, and ballet! I also really like to play volleyball! Right now im in love with One Direction, Ed Sheeran, and Little Mix! Im really upset that One Direction is not coming to Winnipeg on their tour, which started on the 23rd! but maybe they will next tour! I really like Wendy Mass as an author, she was written 11 birthdays, and finally,  I also have her book 13 gifts that i have to read. The book that i am reading now is called TheVampire Diaries. It a new series on the CW. I really like the show and watch it every thursday, so i decided it would be cool to read the book. Of course the book is pretty different, but there are still a lot of the same characters, which is good so can picture them while reading. I've always liked english and Im really excited to see what this semesters english class has to bring!

Blog #5- Mid Summers Night’s Dream connections

                The book that I am currently reading is called The Vampire Diaries. It is quite different from the Mid Summers Night’s Dream book because my book is about vampires. I can find two connections between my book and Mid Summers Night’s Dream. The first one is that Hermia loves Lysander who loves her back just like in my book the main character Elena loves Stefan who loves her back. Demetrius loves Hermia but Hermia does not like Demetrius back, just like in my book Damon likes Elena but Elena does not like Damon back. Just like Lysander, Stefan is more of the nice guy who writes in a diary and really cares about Elena. Just like Demetrius, Damon is defiantly the bad boy. Damon is much worse than Demetrius is, so far, but it is kind of the same thing. The second connection I am making between my book and Mid Summers Night’s Dream is the theme of forbidden love. The main character Elena is in love with Stefan who is a vampire. Now not everybody knows quite yet about this but I am sure that when they do nobody will be very happy. Especially because some people know that Stefan is a vampire and almost everyone is blaming him for a murder that just recently happened. Stefan did not commit this crime, Elena and Stefan strongly believe that it was Damon who did it, but nobody, apart from Stefan and Elena, knows about Damon quite yet.  I’m sure everyone will want Elena, who is the sweet and popular girl of the town, far away from both of the vampire boys and they will forbid her from seeing them. Elena is the type of girl like Hermia who would go behind people of authority’s back to go to see Stefan. A smaller connection is, that I find that Elena and Helena sound alike and Damon and Demetrius sound alike.

blog # 4-Spring break

This year for spring break I have lots of random things that I’m going to do. One of the more boring things that I will be doing is sleeping and relaxing. I definitely need to catch up on sleep. One of the more important and exciting thing that I will be doing is re-doing my room. I am getting hard wood, which is not fun because I really like my carpet and I find that carpet in a bedroom is better and makes the room more comfortable. But of course my mom wants hardwood and what she says goes. I’m also getting a double bed which is exciting for me! My favourite part about re-doing my room is the whole decorating and organizing of it, like buying cute decor pillows and new bed covers and going to Ikea is really fun. We did go to Ikea already to get a wall mount with a  TV spot and extra space to put clothes and random things, so I’ll be putting that together. My mom said that we were going to a place that I forget what it’s called, but she said it was a place you could go to get decor and cute things for pretty cheap! We actually did not plan on doing this whole project on spring break, we planned on doing it earlier but of course the flooring was delayed a lot! That really frustrated me because I never even wanted the hardwood and all I really want is the new bed and now it’s being delayed for something l would  rather not have so that makes me kind of mad. Since this project isn’t going to take the whole week it will probably take just the weekend, I have to find some other things the preoccupy myself. Il probably just hang with friends and go to the mall and just relax!

 

    I chose this picture because my friend Baily and I every year have a snow day.We take little toboggans and go tobogganing and this year we are trying something new and building a fort, of course it is not going to be as professional as the one in the picture, but the one that ours will look like is boring! This has kind of turned into a tradition for us! This year since there is so much snow on our street we decided to make a snow fort. I’m really excited because whenever I’m with her we end up doing something really stupid and funny which is like the best part of our friend ship. So far this year we have had three snow days all of which have been super fun! We usually go to the park on our street first and toboggan down the slide and make snow angles and things like that. Then we go to hills that are hidden around a fence and it’s a big strip of hills that are fairly large and steep and they are so much fun to go down and we always have a good laugh. We usually stay out for about three hours before we start to freeze and are forced to go back inside. This time we are making a fort so hopefully it will work out. The snow hills are so big that the fort is practically premade for us we just have to dig out the insides and the entrance. We are going to do it in her back yard because hers is a bit bigger. I’ll probably hang out with Baily the most because she lives so close and a lot of my friends are going on vacations. I feel I’m really lucky to have Baily just down the street and to be such good friends with her is great!

The book that I am reading right now is called Vampire Diaries I really like the book! I like the whole plot and events that happen throughout the book. The author is Lisa Jane Smith also known as L. J. Smith who also wrote the Night World series. What I like about this author is her writing style. For me, it is very easy to read. I am now on the second book of the series, I feel like I went through the first book really fast, but not too fast because I could still understand everything. This is another part that I like. I feel like I can really understand what I am reading which is always an essential part in reading. I feel I barely ever have to stop to re-read something or stop to think about what I just read. I really love those kinds of book where you can just get lost in reading and that’s how I feel when I read this book. Lastly I really like how she uses lots of visuals when writing. I am watching the Vampire Diaries series on TV so I kind of already knew what each character looks like. Since I’m so far into the TV series and this is only the second book in the series there are some characters that I have forgotten about and with Lisa’s descriptions of the people it helps me really remember the character. These are some of the things that I enjoy in this book!

The book that I am reading right now is called The Vampire Diaries. It’s obviously about vampires so it’s a little harder to relate to anything in the book because it is mostly about the vampire lives and killing. The main character is Elena who has a thing with Stefan who is a vampire and I can’t really relate to her because she is experiencing a lot of death and scary situations which I usually don’t encounter on a daily basis. What I can relate to in this book is the setting. A lot of the people in my book go to a high school which I can relate to because I am in high school. A specific part that I can relate to is after a killing that happened just recently to the students of the schools Halloween party, one of the teachers was killed. The teacher was Elena’s social studies teacher. When they got back to school they had a new teacher. A lot of the students were still really sad about what had happened to the other teacher that the new teacher decided to have a talk with all of the students so that they could share the stories and how they felt about the whole situation. Everyone ended up sharing their stories and it was pretty dramatic. When I was reading this part in the book it reminded me of my social studies Westwood 1 class. After the take your kid to work day my teacher said that we could all share our experiences. I don’t know why it reminded my of this but I think it was that we all sat in a circle and in the book they kind of all sat in a circle facing each other, so that was probably why.
